Bug Bounty Program Slates $300k Mobile Hacking Contest For November
Contestants who demonstrate successful attacks against smartphones, tablets, mobile services, and browsers in Hewlett-Packard Tipping Point's bug bounty program's second annual Mobile Pwn2Own contest this fall will split $300,000 in prize money.

Hewlett-Packard Tipping Point's bug bounty program will sponsor the second annual Mobile Pwn2Own contest this fall.
Contestants who demonstrate successful attacks against smartphones, tablets, mobile services, and browsers will split $300,000 in prize money. The top prize of $100,000 will go to the first researcher or team that hacks a phone's baseband processor. The Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) also will award $70,000 for hacking a message service such as SMS, $50,000 for hacking a short-distance linking technology such as Bluetooth or NFC, $40,000 for hacking a mobile browser, and $40,000 for hacking a mobile operating system.
Participants can choose to exploit Apple's iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, Google's Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 7 tablet, Nokia's Lumia 1020, Microsoft's Surface RT tablet, or Samsung's Galaxy S4 smartphone. Contestants will have to provide details of the vulnerabilities they leverage and disclose their exploit techniques. Google and Blackberry are co-sponsors of the event, which is scheduled for Nov. 13-14, in Tokyo.
