Mozilla Woos Programmers With Plans for a Webdev Browser
On Monday, the Mozilla Foundation plans to launch a version of its Firebox browser to enable developers to build Web pages and applications.

The Mozilla Foundation is launching a version of its Firefox browser to enable developers to build Web pages and applications, and it intends to unveil the still unnamed software on Nov. 10.
"Mozilla has had tools supporting this workflow for some time in Firefox," notes IDC's Al Hilwa. "It makes some sense to fork a separate version to double down on these capabilities."
Developers typically need multiple separate tools to create a Web page and to test the resulting patchwork of code in the browser, and Mozilla wants to streamline the process by incorporating the development tools in the browser itself. A programmer could write the code and check immediately to see if it works.
Firefox would be the first major browser to be customized specifically for developers. Tools likely to be featured in the developer edition include the Firefox Tools Adapter debugger and Web Integrated Development Environment, which can be used for building Web applications for the browser and for Firefox's mobile operating system.
Meanwhile, the World Wide Web Consortium is seeking to build out a set of standards to use the Web as a platform for running full-fledged applications in an effort called the Open Web Platform.
