U.K. grocery chain Tesco next month will launch a trial of a drone delivery service in Ireland's County Galway, using unmanned aerial vehicles from Manna to deliver "small baskets" of goods to customers of Tesco's Oranmore outlet.
The drones can fly at 50 miles (80 kilometers) an hour, delivering up to 4 kilograms (9 pounds) of items in a cargo cassette lowered from the vehicle.
Manna drones are making medicine delivery runs in Ireland, transporting prescriptions and other critical supplies in the town of Moneygall.
However, residents have opposed certain drone trials, complaining that the aircraft are too noisy and intrusive.
Moreover, a 2019 Institution of Mechanical Engineers report estimated that only 25% of U.K. adults favored drone deliveries, due to safety and noise issues.
