Arkose Labs reported that malicious attacks by bots and human fraud farms accounted for 73% of all Web and app traffic in the third quarter of 2023.
The bot management and account security firm analyzed billions of sessions among multiple industries and regions and classified the attacks as basic bots, intelligent bots, or human fraud farms.
During the first half of this year, the report showed that bot attacks surged 167%, with intelligent bot attacks up 291%.
Attacks by human fraud farms soared 49% during the same period.
The report attributes the jump in attacks to generative artificial intelligence and Cybercrime-as-a-Service, which involves buying or renting bots and other cybercrime tools from online vendors that provide training and support to customers.
Bots accounted for more than 50% of Web and app traffic in the travel and hospitality, technology, and retail sectors, according to the report.
