Fraunhofer IFF researchers have developed software that can provide virtual tours of cities for everyone from commercial investors to potential and current residents.
The researchers created the software specifically for the residents of Stassfurt, which is currently rebuilding the downtown area after mining caused the ground to cave in. New models of recreational and banking zones have been planned out and residents of Stassfurt are able to walk through the new layout virtually.
Municipalities, cities, and districts plan to use the new software for urban planning as well as for regional marketing to attract potential investors. "Our software can even be used to retrieve background information on local companies, thus enabling investors to find out if potential partners are based at a location," says Fraunhofer research manager Andreas Hopfner.
